What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

Here is what I finished:
Someone from work borrowed me The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, and I can tell you this is definitely my favorite in the last 6 months.  Hopefully I can post my review soon of this one.

What I'm reading now:
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is our summer book club selection, so this is what has been keeping me busy.  Death was certainly a busy character during Hitler's reign.

What's next:
Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran has been on my bookshelf for a couple of years, so I think I'm going to delve into this one.  I need a break from the depths of WWII!

My life has just been getting busier and busier so I post when I can, and I realize that it has been almost a month since I posted a review!  I am starting a graduate class next month and then I have twin grandbabies coming towards the end of October, so things are not going to lighten up any time soon!  I will definitely post whenever I can so don't give up on me yet!

What kind of books have been keeping you all up at night?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

Here is what I finished listening to:
Sisters of Shiloh by Kathy and Becky Hepinstall turned out to be a fascinating book to listen to.  I'm going to try to get this review done soon, so stay tuned!

What I'm reading now:
I walked in our school library one day and saw a co-worker reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.  She generously offered to borrow me the book when she was done after telling me how much she was enjoying it.  I'm not quite halfway through it yet, but this could be my favorite by Kristin Hannah so far.

What's next:
Every summer our book club picks a longer book to read and this year it is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.  It has been tough not being able to watch the movie as I really want to read the book first.

So those are the books that have been keeping me busy lately.  If only I didn't have other things going on in my life, I could read so many more!

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished listening to:

I finished listening to We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas.  This was a beautiful saga narrated by Mare Winningham, who did a wonderful job.

What I'm reading now:
Our current book club selection is Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand.  I have only just started but I have a feeling this one is going to be a book club favorite.

What's next?
Sometimes it's tough to pick my next book but I think I'm going with The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson.  A co-worker borrowed me all three of these audiobooks over a year ago and I've listened to the first two, without much enthusiasm.  I guess I'm the odd duck, not enjoying them as much as the rest of the world.  I'm going to finally listen to this final segment so I can at least say I've listened to the entire series.

So what is keeping you busy these days?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
Our last book club selection was The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark.  I will be preparing my review for this one, but don't expect much as no-one in my book club enjoyed it, including myself!

What I'm reading now:
Someone Else's Love Story by Joshilyn Jackson has been sitting on one of my piles for over year.  When one of my friends told me she just picked up the audio, I decided to open this one myself.  Jackson is spot on with this one.

What's next:
Our next book club selection is The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party by Alexander McCall Smith.  These books are always enjoyable and I am looking forward to kicking back with a cup of tea to enjoy the Botswana atmosphere.

I can't believe I haven't posted a review in two weeks!  Life has definitely been getting crazy for me.  I thought people slow down as they get older, but I seem to be doing the opposite!  With as busy as things have been I've only been able to read during my lunch hour at work, but it's better than nothing.  So pages have you been turning lately?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
I was able to sneak in The Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst because I knew our book club selection would be a quick read.  I have to admit I didn't really know what this book was about, but I've been wanting to read it for the last couple of years.  It had an odd twist to it, but it was well worth the wait.

What I'm reading now:
Our December book club selection is Christmas Jars by Jason Wright.  I've come not to expect much out of the Christmas novels, and although this is a little book, so far I've found it quite powerful.  I'll let you know how it ends up.

What's next?
I've had Someone Else's Love Story by Joshilyn Jackson on my TBR pile for at least a year now.  When my friend told me she just picked up the audiobook I figured it's about time I get this one read and reviewed.  I've loved Jackson's previous work so I'm looking forward to this one.

So what's been keeping you lost in books lately?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
An Unexpected Grace by Kristin von Kreisler was our last book club selection.  I still have to get my review ready, but I can tell you that most of my book club (including me) did not care for this one.

What I'm listening to now:
When I requested All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner, I must not have realized that it was about a woman struggling with an addiction to pain killers.  This is a great story that has my attention every step of the way.

What's next:
Our book club won copies of And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini from ReadingGroupGuides.com, so that is what I will be picking up next.  I'm so excited to read Hosseini's next novel.

So that is what has been keeping me busy, how about you?  Life has been pretty crazy, obviously limiting my time available for blogging.  So please know if I don't stop by, that I'm thinking of you!  Between working full-time, and keeping a handle on my home and other activities, it's all I can handle.  I remember when I would try to post something every day, now I'm lucky to post a review once a week.  But that's ok!  There is just too much of life that I want to enjoy, I guess!

Here is what I finished:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith was my book club's summer selection so I finished reading this one just before we met to discuss it last Wednesday.  What a marvelous book this was!  Stay tuned for my review.

What I'm listening to now:
I have been listening to Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King and boy has it been an intense ride!

What's next:
Our next book club selection is Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline, so I plan to start this one soon.

So what have you been reading lately?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

I finished:
Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand is an audiobook that has been on my bookshelf for the last year, so in an attempt to not think about winter for awhile, I decided to listen to this one.  I enjoyed it, but it sure was sad.  You will have to watch for my review soon.

What I'm reading now:
I had to set aside the other book I started because book club meets this week and we are reading The Double Comfort Safari Club by Alexander McCall Smith. Oh, how I enjoy these novels!

What's next:
I hope to get back to The Funeral Dress by Susan Gregg Gilmore.  This is the one I had to set aside and I sure was enjoying this one too!

So what kind of books have been keeping you up at night?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

I finished:
I finished The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker and I absolutely loved it.  Most of the ladies in my book club enjoyed it as much as I did.

What I'm reading now:
The Funeral Dress by Susan Gregg Gilmore has been on my TBR pile for almost a year, so I decided to try to sneak this one in before my next book club selection.

What's next:
Our next book club selection is The Double Comfort Safari Club by Alexander McCall Smith.  These books are usually fun and delightful to read so I am looking forward to it!

So what have you been reading lately?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
I finished listening to The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and what can I say about this one before posting my review?  How about-it was one of the most sweet and delightful books I have read or listened to in a long time!  Watch for my review coming soon.

What I'm reading now:
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker is our current book club selection so this is what I'm reading on my Kindle.  I'm really enjoying this story and I can't wait to see what the other ladies think about it on Wednesday!  I'm just hoping a snowstorm doesn't cause us to cancel our meeting again!

What's next?
I am sick of this cold and snow so I decided to listen to Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand.  I've listened to a few of Hilderbrand's novels and although it has a sad tone I am finding it enjoyable.

So what has been keeping you up at night?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
I just finished A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve.  Although it was chosen as our December book club selection we are just meeting tomorrow night to discuss it.  We were originally scheduled for last Monday, but the consistent sub-zero temperatures threw a crimp in our plans.  That is the second time we had to reschedule book club this winter and we have quite a bit to go!  Shreve is one of my favorite authors and I have a feeling that I enjoyed this book more than many of our other members.  You will have to watch for my review soon.
What I'm listening to now:
I just started listening to The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and so far, so good.  I'm still on the first disc so I can't really say much about it, except for that the narrator is great!

What's next:
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker is our next book club selection so I plan on starting this one today.  I remember being intrigued by this book when I first spotted it on blogs everywhere.

So what has been keeping you busy lately?

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
Our last book club selection was The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey and I absolutely loved this book!  Unfortunately, because of the snow we had to reschedule our book club night, putting it on an evening that I was to be out of town.  I will have to catch up with the ladies next month to see how everyone enjoyed it.

What I'm reading now:
A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve is our next book club selection so I decided to get started on this one right away.  Shreve is one of my favorite authors.

What's next:
I wanted to read The Funeral Dress by Susan Gregg Gilmore after my last book club book, but I ran out of time!  We will see how that works out this month!

You may have noticed that I haven't been able to post much lately, so my apologies!  Life gets in the way and I guess there isn't much I can do about that.  I know I didn't post any reviews last week but I am going to try to continue to post at least one a week.  Thanks for stopping by!

What Are You Reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey hosts this meme that gives you the opportunity to share the books that you have been losing yourself in lately and also the ones that you are looking forward to picking up next.

What I finished:
Last month my book group read In the Land of Blue Burqas by Kate McCord and it was enjoyed by every member.  I'm hoping to have my review of this gem ready for you next week.

What I'm reading on my Kindle:
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey is our next book club selection so I decided to get started on this one right away.  So far I am enjoying this novel set in the remote wild of Alaska.

What's next:
I received a copy of The Funeral Dress by Susan Gregg Gilmore from Librarything, so I think this will be next on my reading list.
